Insider trading tracker: SEC Form 4 filings, explained
When a company's officers, directors or 10% shareholders buy or sell its stock, they must report it to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on a Form 4, normally within two business days. These filings are public, legal and searchable. AlfaFinances turns them into a readable feed.

What you can see
- Real SEC Form 4 filings pulled from SEC EDGAR, with the insider's name and role, the type of transaction, shares, price and dollar value.
- An activity score for each filing, an algorithmic estimate based on factors such as the size of the trade and the insider's role. It is a way to sort a long list, not a prediction.
- Live price and scenario analysis when you open a filing, so you can see how the stock has moved since the trade.
- Insider activity on each stock page. For example, see recent insider transactions on the Apple (AAPL) page.

How to read a Form 4 sensibly
- Open-market purchases are the clearest signal. An executive spending their own cash on shares is a deliberate choice. Even so, it does not guarantee the stock will rise.
- Sales are weaker evidence. Insiders sell for many ordinary reasons, such as taxes, diversification or pre-planned schedules.
- Awards and option exercises are not purchases. A filing that shows shares acquired at a price of zero is typically a stock award, not a buy.
- Context matters. Compare the size of a trade with the insider's total holding, and look for clusters of several insiders acting together rather than a single filing.
Is this the same as illegal insider trading?
No. Form 4 filings report legal trades by insiders, disclosed to the public. Illegal insider trading means trading on material non-public information. You can verify any filing yourself on SEC EDGAR.

Frequently asked questions
What is an SEC Form 4?
A Form 4 is the report that corporate insiders (officers, directors and holders of more than 10% of a company's stock) file with the SEC when they buy or sell company stock. It is generally due within two business days of the transaction.
Is insider buying a reliable buy signal?
Not on its own. Insider purchases can be informative, but they do not guarantee a stock will rise, and there are many reasons an insider might trade. Treat it as one input among many, never as advice.
Where does AlfaFinances get its insider data?
From the SEC's public EDGAR filings. You can verify any filing against EDGAR directly.
How is the activity score calculated?
It is an algorithmic estimate used to sort filings, based on factors such as the trade size and the insider's role. It is not a forecast and not a recommendation.
Do I need to pay to see insider trades?
The most recent filings are free to view. Plus and Pro unlock the full list and search by ticker.
